Can’t touch this
So there’s this thread on r/AskReddit about the most addictive game ever. After thinking for a bit, I can safely say I have never been addicted to a game ever. There are games that I have put tons of hours into, but I wouldn’t consider myself as addicted to the game. I play it because I enjoy it not because, I cannot pull myself away from it.
I am against games that prey on user psychology to addict players. I want clean design. As in design for a better experience overall. Fuck games that make money off you through OCD, or frustrating event based games that speed up grinding.
Funny how a game designer, has never been addicted to a game. I have been obsessed with games, recently Spelunky and Fez, which is totally different. I fucking enjoy the design of Spelunky. I enjoy it so much, I reccomend it to everyone I know, and even then I am not addicted. I obsess over Fez’s visuals and puzzle design. I am not forced to play it with an incentive.
Play the games you want to play. Play games for being fun.
Thumbdrives spoil because of wear and tear. Wear and tear causes everything to spoil, really.
The internet is awesome because your stuff never spoils in the cloud. It’s virtual stuff.
Imagine if computers were virtual themselves. What i mean is to minimalise wear and tear. Creating large rigs to power several computers and stream their displays to usable screens. With Windows 8, this is totally possible. You buy computers by renting a rig on a subscription basis. You can upgrade the rig anytime and get a faster computer and so on.
Of course, this is in the case of worldwide free 1TBps internet speeds. Also, this would be the ultimate DRM. Everything you do can be seen. This would obviously spark pirates to create rigs of their own. Leading to Internet DRM which really would fuck over everyone. Still its nice to think of subscription based computers. Data that can be transferred at the blink of an eye. If this service was managed by Steam, that would be awesome. Integrated with dual boot SteamOS and Windows. Gaming at the touch of your fingers.
Steam and Google should totally team up. Google should have its own satalitte giving free internet to everybody at extreme speeds. That would really fuck over all the shitty internet providers too. Free open source internet. So fucking sweet.
